Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Kazem Jaber Al-Jubouri, President of Al-Qadisiyah University, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Munir Abdul Amir Abdul Fattah, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Department of Internal and Preventive Medicine at the college held a discussion session titled (Antibiotic Resistance in Farm Animals). The session was presented by Professor Dr. Qassem Halim Kashash.
The session aimed to introduce the phenomenon of antibiotic resistance commonly used in the treatment of many diseases in field animals. It also included the main mechanisms of antibiotic resistance possessed by pathogenic microbes, the common causes of bacterial resistance to antibiotics, and the disadvantages and risks of the spread of microbial resistance to antibiotics on the health of animals and humans.
The session concluded that the indiscriminate use of antibiotics, which is not based on scientific and accurate diagnosis of disease causes, is one of the main reasons for the spread of antibiotic resistance. It also emphasized the need to raise health awareness about the dangers of antibiotic resistance among animal breeders and the medical staff responsible for prescribing antibiotics.
