The Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Qadisiyah University, discussed a Master’s thesis entitled “Durability and Sustainability of Fiber-Reinforced Foam Concrete for Construction Use” in the postgraduate studies discussion hall. The thesis was presented by researcher Zuhair Kadhim Abnian and supervised by Professor Dr. Adnan Faleh Hassan.
The thesis aimed to develop lightweight foam concrete and improve its mechanical properties and durability by optimizing the mix design using systematic methods. It incorporated polypropylene fibers, alkali-resistant glass fibers, and silica fume as partial replacements for cement, and silica sand as a complete replacement for ordinary sand, along with a synthetic foaming agent and a controlled foam production system.
The study also included a successful integration of foam concrete mix development and foam production control techniques, utilizing local materials and fiber reinforcement to achieve a lightweight and improved foam concrete that combines enhanced performance and durability.
