Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Nabil Imran Al-Khalidi, the Department of Geography at the College of Arts, Al-Qadisiyah University, held a scientific seminar entitled “Challenges of Scientific Interpretation in Spatial Studies: From Causal Interpretations to Structural Models.” The seminar featured presentations by Professor Dr. Hussein Ali Abdul Hussein and Professor Dr. Ibrahim Naji Abbas, and was chaired by Professor Dr. [Name Missing]. Raad Abdul Hussein Mohammed
The symposium aimed to deconstruct the traditional causal framework in explaining spatial phenomena and demonstrate its limitations in dealing with complex spatial systems. It also aimed to highlight the contemporary philosophical shift towards constructivist models that explain space as a product of internal relationships and structures, not merely linear causes. The symposium recommended moving beyond the direct cause-and-effect model in analyzing complex spatial phenomena and called for the adoption of constructivist models and theoretical modeling as explanatory, not merely representational, tools.
