Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Law, Professor Dr. Nizam Jabbar Talib, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Law, Al-Qadisiyah University, in cooperation with the High Commission for Human Rights, Diwaniyah Office, held a scientific seminar entitled “Violence Against Women: Between Social Reality and Legal Criminalization.” The seminar featured presentations by Assistant Professor Dr. Laila Hamza Radhi and Assistant Legal Advisor Ms. Fatima Jaber, and was moderated by Dr. [Name Missing]. Ali Abdul Sada Jaiz
The seminar aimed to raise awareness about violence against women, a phenomenon considered one of the most serious social and humanitarian problems facing both ancient and modern societies. This is due to its profound negative impact on women’s dignity, physical and psychological well-being, and the stability of the family and society as a whole.
Key Conclusions: Women face many forms of violence in society, including physical violence, where women in Iraq are subjected to beatings and physical harassment, which can lead to serious injuries or even death. Psychological violence is another form, where women are subjected to threats, insults, and humiliation, negatively affecting their mental health. Key Recommendations: Strengthening awareness of the importance of women’s rights; increasing penalties for perpetrators of violence against women; providing psychological and economic support to female victims of violence; enhancing the role of the police and judiciary in protecting women; and the necessity of enacting legislation that criminalizes violence against women with clear and explicit provisions, independently.
