Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Salwan Ali Obaid Al-Hamzawi, the Department of Criminal Evidence at the College of Science held a seminar entitled “Drug Use and Addiction and Their Impact on Community Security and Criminal Behavior.” The seminar was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Saadia Ali Al-Ghannami.
The seminar addressed the fact that drug use is the beginning, while addiction is an advanced stage involving profound neurological and behavioral changes. Both are linked to crime through three main mechanisms: the direct effect of the substance on behavior, the economic need to purchase it, and the criminal system of drug trafficking. Therefore, addiction is considered one of the most important risk factors in violent and non-violent crimes and constitutes a central focus in criminal investigations.
