The College of Archaeology at Al-Qadisiyah University places great importance on water management within the framework of sustainable development, recognizing the vital role of water conservation and its essential contribution to both university life and the environment. Accordingly, the college has adopted a comprehensive policy aimed at achieving optimal water use through modern technologies and innovative systems for recycling, storage, and sustainable irrigation.
The college has implemented numerous programs and initiatives to improve water efficiency and reduce waste. Among the most prominent of these is the use of modern water management equipment, such as smart faucets and self-cleaning devices, which contribute to reducing water consumption compared to traditional equipment. Old faucets and facilities have also been replaced with modern, water-saving systems in the restrooms for faculty and administrative staff.
To further promote sustainability on campus, the College of Archaeology has implemented an effective water conservation mechanism in its gardens and green spaces by using modern sprinkler systems instead of traditional flood irrigation, resulting in a significant reduction in the amount of water used for irrigating plants. This step is a prime example of the college’s commitment to preserving natural resources and achieving sustainable environmental management of its green spaces.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the college implemented dedicated programs, including extensive disinfection and sterilization operations, to curb the spread of the virus and ensure the safety of its faculty, staff, and students, in accordance with public health and environmental protection standards.
Through these integrated measures, the College of Archaeology at Al-Qadisiyah University has established a solid foundation for highly efficient water management, aligning with global GreenMetric indicators. This reflects the college’s commitment to applying sustainable development standards in all aspects of its infrastructure and daily operations. Water conservation is no longer merely an environmental practice; it has become an integral part of the college’s institutional culture, demonstrating its awareness of its responsibility towards society and the environment, and its ongoing pursuit of becoming a leading example among Iraqi universities in the field of sustainable water resource management.
