Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Rahi Kalf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, President of Al-Qadisiyah University, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Munir Abdul Amir Abdul Fatlawi, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Department of Veterinary Microbiology at the college held a discussion session on infectious equine diseases. The session was attended by Assistant Professor Azhar Abdul-Sada Ne’ma. The session aimed to explore the nature of infectious equine diseases. These diseases are caused by bacteria such as strangles, which cause swollen lymph nodes, thick nasal secretions, and fever; by viruses such as Equine Herpesvirus (EHV), which causes respiratory problems and abortion in mares; or by parasites such as Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM), which causes ataxia, muscle weakness, and loss of balance. The session recommended adherence to regular vaccinations, good hygiene, quarantine of suspected cases, reducing exposure to vector insects, and cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surrounding areas.
