Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Rahi Kalf Al-Yasiri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Biotechnology, Professor Dr. Muhammad Abdul-Wahab Al-Askari, the College of Biotechnology held a workshop entitled “The Risks of Bisphenol A and Plastics on Human Health and the Environment.” Assistant Professor Dr. Dhafaf Jassim Muhammad lectured. The workshop addressed the harmful effects of using bisphenol A (BPA), which is used in the manufacture of plastics and plastic water bottles, and a number of important topics. The use of plastic water bottles disrupts endocrine function, causes infertility, increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. The workshop recommended avoiding handling plastic utensils at home, avoiding buying plastic children’s toys, and avoiding the use of plastic containers and cups made of plastic, as they contain BPA, especially if they react with heat, heating, or continuous exposure to sunlight. This substance interacts with plastic, causing cancer.
