Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Kazem Jabr Al-Jubouri, and in the presence of the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Star Al-Fatlawi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Archaeology, Assistant Professor Dr. Rajwan Faisal Al-Miyali, the College of Archaeology held a training course titled “Ancient Stone Ages: Springs and Oases in the Western Desert.” The course featured lectures by Assistant Professor Dr. Jaafar Hamza Al-Joudhri, Dr. Eila Akbarits from the Dutch University of Brussels, and Dr. Andreas Niemark from the University of Cambridge, UK.
The training course addressed the importance of ancient stone springs and oases in the Iraqi Western Desert, which represent distinctive natural landmarks that helped ancient humans settle and engage in their daily activities such as hunting and gathering food. These springs, formed by ancient geological formations, were essential water sources, and stone tools such as blades, arrowheads, and scrapers used for hunting and food preparation were found in their vicinity.
