The Women’s Affairs Unit, in collaboration with the Rehabilitation and Employment Unit at the College of Law at Al-Qadisiyah University, organized a scientific workshop titled (The Legal Framework for the Rights and Duties of Female Employees in Iraqi Law), presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Walid Hassan Hamid and managed by Assistant Professor Dr. Sundus Mohammed Abbas.

The workshop aimed to shed light on the most important rights enjoyed by female employees in Iraqi state institutions, as well as the duties outlined in Iraqi laws, particularly the Iraqi Civil Service Law No. (24) of 1960 as amended and the State Employees and Public Sector Disciplinary Law No. (14) of 1991 as amended.

The workshop concluded that there is a similarity in the rights and duties of female employees and those of male employees; however, this similarity tends to diminish concerning certain rights enjoyed by female employees compared to their male counterparts. For instance, there are specific types of leave available to female employees that are not available to male employees, such as maternity leave, childbirth leave, and waiting period leave.

The workshop recommended that the Iraqi legislator reconsider the rights of female employees outlined in the current Civil Service Law, as well as the duties and prohibitions specified in the current State Employees and Public Sector Disciplinary Law, in a manner that aligns with the developments occurring in various state institutions and their formations.
