The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering held a workshop titled “Enhancing Awareness and Combating Violence Against Women: Towards a More Just and Safe Society,” presented by the unit’s official, M.M. Israa Riyad Al-Ghura.
The workshop aimed to increase awareness about the types of violence against women, clarify the concept of violence against women and its various forms, the causes leading to it, the resulting effects, and the role of the family, civil society, and law in confronting it. The workshop emphasized that violence against women is a humanitarian issue that should be at the heart of societal priorities; it requires cooperation among all concerned parties: the government, civil society, media, and family.
The workshop recommended the necessity of enacting a law to combat domestic violence and joining international agreements to protect women, along with emphasizing education and community awareness to reduce violence against women, as well as the need for psychological support.
