Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Kazem Jabr Al-Jubouri, and supervised by the Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Assistant Professor Dr. As’ad Hassan Al-Zaydi, as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week activities at the College of Pharmacy.

The College of Pharmacy held its first exhibition dedicated to the pharmaceutical laboratory, where pharmacist Zahra Munther Abdul-Kadhim participated from the pharmaceutical technology laboratory by preparing several pharmaceutical preparations throughout the first semester of the third academic year. The most important of these were the preparation method for Dexamethasone syrup and the preparation method for Elixirs, specifically the Paracetamol pediatric elixir, in addition to preparing mouthwash and the method for preparing Calamine lotion, which is a compound medication consisting of calamine, an anti-itching substance used to relieve pain and itching associated with skin inflammation and dermatological diseases. It provides a cooling sensation when applied to the skin, reducing feelings of pain and discomfort.

Zinc oxide is noted for its soothing and protective properties, helping to alleviate pain. It is also included in most sunscreen formulations, as it works to reflect ultraviolet rays. This treatment is used to relieve pain and itching associated with dermatological conditions such as eczema, to alleviate pain from insect bites, and heat rash, as well as to control itching from dry skin and itching resulting from chickenpox infection.

Additionally, some skincare products were prepared.

Meanwhile, pharmacist Fatima Amer Abis from the industrial pharmacy laboratory participated in preparing various types of tablets, the most important of which were NaCl tablets, NaHCO3 tablets, Vitamin C tablets, and Aspirin tablets.

In addition to conducting an evaluation of these pharmaceutical formulations, which includes the use of some devices available in the pharmaceutical laboratory (to measure their compliance with the standards set by the United States Pharmacopeia), including:
1- Digital vernier caliper to measure the thickness and diameter of the tablets.
2- Friability tester to measure the tablets’ ability to withstand free fall and ensure their safety during manufacturing, storage, and transportation, etc.
3- Hardness tester to measure the hardness of the tablets.
4- Disintegration testers to measure the disintegration of the tablets.
5- Dissolution tester to test the solubility of the tablets and the release of the active pharmaceutical ingredient.
