Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Kazem Jaber Al-Jubouri, President of Al-Qadisiyah University, and supervised by Professor Dr. Munir Abdul Amir Abdul Fattah, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the college organized a workshop titled “Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (Baghdad Boil),” presented by M.M. Sara Razaq Khudair and M.M. Akram Madloul Amanah.
The workshop aimed to familiarize attendees with the leishmania parasite and its pathogenicity, as leishmaniasis in its three forms (visceral, cutaneous, and mucocutaneous) caused by a unicellular parasite is one of the most widespread parasitic diseases. The workshop included explanations of the types of the parasite, its distribution, transmission methods, the severity of infections, as well as a historical overview of the discovery of the parasite and methods of prevention and treatment.
The workshop recommended the necessity of controlling parasite infections by eliminating transmission vectors and managing reservoir hosts (stray dogs and rodents), as well as using appropriate treatment upon infection.
