Dr. Raad Farhan Shahid, the head of the Green Education Unit at Al-Qadisiyah University, participated in the seminar organized by the Ministry of Agriculture on “The Negative Impacts of Invasive Plants on the Iraqi Natural Environment.”
The seminar, which was sponsored by the Ministry of Agriculture/Planning and Follow-up Department – Environmental Section, was held at its headquarters with the attendance of the ministry advisor Dr. Mahdi Dhamad Al-Qaisi, several general directors, specialists, and a number of ministry employees and affiliates. It included a presentation by Dr. Saad Badai on the introduction to the types of invasive alien plants in the Iraqi environment, their threat to biological systems, their impact on the agricultural sector, the environmental field, and climate changes, in addition to their effects on human and animal health and the significant economic losses they cause in the country.
The seminar also recommended the importance of documenting effective solutions and treatments to confront the spread of these plants and reduce their negative impacts.
