The Mechanical Engineering Department at the College of Engineering at Al-Qadisiyah University organized a scientific course titled “Fundamentals and Best Methods for Measuring and Calculating the Thermal Properties of Fluids and Materials” in the Continuing Education Unit hall, presented by Dr. Haider Mohammed Abbas and Dr. Mohammed Yasin Shakir.
The course aimed to introduce the thermal properties of solids and fluids and shed light on understanding the fundamentals and best practices in measuring and calculating the thermal properties of fluids and materials.
The course included thermal properties of materials such as thermal conductivity, which measures the ability of materials to conduct heat, and specific heat capacity, which determines the amount of heat that materials can absorb. It discussed various methods for measuring thermal properties, such as the steady-state method and the transient method, and selecting appropriate techniques for different materials, in addition to using advanced equipment such as thermal balances and the factors affecting measurements such as temperature and pressure.
