The Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at the College of Engineering at Al-Qadisiyah University organized a guidance seminar titled “Cyber Extortion: Its Types and Methods of Addressing It” in the Continuing Education Unit hall, presented by Dr. Khalood Abbas Hussein.
The seminar aimed to address the spread of this phenomenon among community members and to work on reducing its prevalence due to the negative impacts it causes on society in general.
The seminar included several key topics, the most important of which were defining the concept of extortion both historically and currently, the extent of this phenomenon’s impact on society in general and on individuals in particular, and examining the positives and negatives of communication technology, including social media, and how to deal with it in a way that serves individuals without harming them.
The seminar clarified how to confront cyber extortion and the importance of communicating with the relevant security authorities, informing parents, and not deleting the content that was sent, in addition to explaining how to protect personal data on mobile phones or social media accounts.
