The Department of Highway and Transportation Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Qadisiyah University, organized a specialized training course entitled “Conducting Asphalt Binder Tests Using the Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR).” The course was presented by Professor Dr. Basim Hassan Shanawa, Assistant Professor Dr. Ihsan Ali Obaid, and Dr. Osama Hassan Jafat.
The course aimed to highlight the latest laboratory techniques used in evaluating the rheological properties of asphalt materials and to keep pace with global developments in road specifications. It also included an introduction to the DSR device, an explanation of the operating principle of the Dynamic Shear Rheometer, and how to measure asphalt’s resistance to permanent deformation (rutting) and fatigue cracking. Furthermore, it demonstrated how to prepare asphalt samples and conduct tests under different temperatures and frequencies.
