The Department of Highway and Transportation Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Qadisiyah University, organized a scientific seminar entitled “Reasons for Retracting Scientific Research and its Impact on University Rankings.” The seminar was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Saif Imad Akoubi.
The seminar reviewed the concept of withdrawing scientific research and its most prominent causes, such as serious scientific errors, data fabrication or falsification, plagiarism, duplicate publications, and manipulation of the peer-review process, in addition to some ethical problems related to research procedures.
The seminar also discussed modern indicators for evaluating the integrity of scientific research, most notably the Research Integrity Risk Index (RI2), which relies on indicators such as the rate of research withdrawals, the rate of self-citation, and publication in journals removed from scientific indexes. The seminar also addressed the IRIS indicators, which measure various aspects of the quality and integrity of scientific publications.
