Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and in the presence of the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Sattar Al-Fatlawi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Archaeology, Professor Dr. Rajwan Faisal Al-Mayali, the College of Archaeology organized a workshop entitled “Heritage Buildings in the Iraqi Desert Constructed During the British Mandate Period.” The workshop featured presentations by Dr. Mackie Freeman, a researcher specializing in the history of architectural heritage at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States, which ranks first among institutes and universities worldwide in international rankings, and Professor Dr. Jaafar Al-Jawdhari. The workshop included a discussion of the architecture and construction of outposts, forts, castles, and rest stops in the western Iraqi desert, particularly those built near springs and wells during the Ottoman and British Mandate periods, highlighting the role of these buildings in controlling the movement and activities of the desert Bedouin. It was also noted that there are seven documented buildings in the British archives pertaining to Iraq, in addition to the buildings extending along the springs and wells of the Abu Jir line between the western desert and the alluvial plain.

It is worth mentioning that Professor Dr. Rajwan Faisal Al-Mayali and Professor Dr. Jaafar Al-Jawdhari published a joint scientific paper on this topic in 2025 with a reputable international publishing house, indexed in Scopus and Clarivate.
