The Department of Civil Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Qadisiyah University, discussed a Master’s thesis entitled “Punching Shear Resistance of Sustainable Self-Compacting Reinforced Concrete Slabs Reinforced with Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer Compounds Fixed Near the Concrete Surface,” submitted by researcher Kadhim Riyadh Kadhim and supervised by Professor Dr. Haitham Ali Badi.
The study addressed one of the most serious structural problems facing flat reinforced concrete slabs: the phenomenon of “punching shear failure.”
The researcher’s findings showed that the use of NSM GFRP bars led to a significant improvement in structural performance.
The study concluded that although the mechanical properties of concrete decrease with increasing recycled aggregate content, GFRP reinforcement can compensate for this deficiency and provide safe and sustainable structural elements, thus opening new horizons for the use of recycled materials. Recycling them in major engineering projects
