Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Professor Dr. Kadhim Nuwair Al-Zubaidi, the College of Fine Arts held a scientific seminar entitled “The Carnival Body and its Performative Presence in theatrical Ashura Rituals.” The seminar was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Halim Hatif Jassim.
The seminar highlighted the concept of the carnival body as an effective performative tool in theatrical Ashura rituals, explaining its aesthetic and symbolic dimensions, its role in shaping ritual and dramatic discourse, its relationship to the theatrical space and the audience, and the profound cultural and humanistic connotations it carries. Among the most important recommendations was emphasizing the importance of studying Ashura rituals as a form of ritual theater and encouraging researchers and art students to address the concepts of the body and performance in their academic research. Regarding the call to include topics of ritual theater and carnival performance within school curricula and scientific activities, and to support the holding of seminars and events that contribute to promoting scientific research and developing artistic awareness.
