Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Salwan Ali Obaid, the Psychological Counseling and Social Guidance Unit at the College of Science organized a workshop entitled “Combating the Social Stigma of Drug Addicts.” The workshop was presented by Dr. Wael Fadhil Aziz, Dr. Bushra Hamed Hassan, and Mr. Ahmed Dawaza Kadhim.
The workshop aimed to highlight the negative effects of social stigma on addicts and their families, change negative societal perceptions, and emphasize the importance of creating a supportive environment to facilitate their reintegration into society after treatment.
Key recommendations included using respectful language that focuses on the individual rather than their condition, promoting family and social support instead of blame and exclusion, developing rehabilitation and self-support programs for recovering addicts, and launching comprehensive community awareness campaigns to correct misconceptions about drug addiction.
