Tree planting is one of the most important environmental practices that contributes to improving the quality of life on campus and promoting the concept of environmental sustainability. In this context, the College of Archaeology at Al-Qadisiyah University gives special attention to tree planting as a fundamental pillar of its environmental strategies, striving to build a clean, healthy, and sustainable university environment.
Based on the college’s awareness of the importance of vegetation in reducing pollution, improving air quality, and lowering temperatures in the university environment, the college implemented a volunteer campaign to plant trees in the area opposite the academic departments. This campaign saw active participation from students and faculty members, under the direct supervision of the Student Activities Division and the Sustainable Development Unit. The campaign aimed to increase green spaces and enhance the college’s aesthetic appeal, as well as to instill a culture of volunteerism and environmental responsibility among students.
The tree planting campaigns implemented by the college contribute to absorbing carbon dioxide and reducing carbon emissions resulting from daily activities on campus, in addition to their role in improving air quality and purifying the environment from pollutants. The planted trees and plants also provide a supportive environment for biodiversity, offering shade and a moderate climate that positively impacts the comfort of students and staff.
These efforts are part of the college’s community service projects, undertaken under the auspices of the university. These projects have also included river clean-up campaigns, pollution removal from areas near the college, and initiatives to raise environmental awareness through volunteer and field activities. These activities represent a clear integration of theoretical and practical aspects in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
Through these initiatives, the College of Archaeology affirms that afforestation is not merely an aesthetic activity, but an effective means of achieving ecological balance and mitigating the effects of climate change. It also reflects the college’s commitment to its responsibility towards the environment and society. Therefore, the college continues its efforts to increase green spaces and develop environmental awareness programs, contributing to the creation of an environmentally friendly campus and enhancing the quality of university life.
