The College of Law at Al-Qadisiyah University places great importance on waste management within the framework of sustainable development, recognizing that a clean and sustainable university environment begins with responsible practices in handling waste and minimizing its environmental impact. Based on this awareness, the college has established a clear mechanism for sorting and classifying waste according to type using designated and clearly labeled containers. This step aims to promote a culture of sustainability among students, faculty, and administrative staff.

The college employs an integrated waste management system based on sorting at the source. Colored and labeled containers have been distributed throughout the college’s corridors and courtyards to facilitate collection and transportation. These containers include various categories: containers for recyclable waste such as paper, plastic, metals, and glass; containers for used batteries; containers for food scraps; containers for toxic waste resulting from laboratory use or chemicals; and general containers for everyday household waste. Each container is equipped with metal or fiberglass signs bearing standardized symbols and colors to facilitate identification and raise awareness among users about the importance of proper waste sorting.

As part of its efforts to reduce non-organic waste, the college has adopted a policy of minimizing paper and plastic use in its administrative and academic transactions. This has been achieved by transitioning to electronic correspondence via the internal intranet, which connects the college to all university departments. This step has significantly reduced the consumption of paper and plastic items within the college, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals and contributing to a smaller environmental footprint for academic institutions.

The college also strives to promote environmental awareness among its students and staff through awareness campaigns and educational programs on the importance of waste management and consumption reduction. Furthermore, it encourages student and research projects that address environmental issues, sustainability, and recycling within the framework of the university’s social responsibility.

Through these practical steps, the College of Law at Al-Qadisiyah University has been able to make waste management an essential part of its environmental system, stressing that protecting the university environment is not only achieved through green infrastructure, but also through responsible behavior and collective awareness that reinforces the concept of sustainable development in daily life within the university campus.
