The College of Science seeks to enhance energy efficiency and combat climate change through a range of innovative and sustainable initiatives. The college has adopted a smart card system to control the on and off of lighting and power in classrooms and laboratories, which has contributed to rationalizing electricity consumption and increasing energy management efficiency.

The college has also paid extensive attention to renewable energy sources, particularly solar energy, and has begun using solar panels to power some electrical appliances, a step toward relying on clean energy and reducing emissions from conventional sources.

To reduce carbon emissions, the college has encouraged carpooling among staff and students and encouraged the use of electric and hybrid vehicles, in line with sustainable development goals and reducing the carbon footprint.

In terms of community initiatives, the college implemented humanitarian science projects during the COVID-19 pandemic, including preparing carrier media for use in medical laboratories, manufacturing sanitizers and masks, and designing self-opening doors to reduce direct contact, ensuring community safety.

The college also has a rich record of workshops, seminars, and scientific research addressing issues of sustainable energy, climate change, global warming, and environmental pollution. This reflects its effective role in supporting the university’s policies toward sustainable development and promoting environmental awareness
