The College of Science at Al-Qadisiyah University embodies a pioneering model for achieving sustainable development through balanced urban planning that combines modern infrastructure with extensive green spaces. The college’s open space amounts to approximately 13,700 square meters of the total area, which also includes 9,100 square meters of buildings and facilities. This represents approximately 60% of the open space, reflecting the college’s commitment to providing a comfortable learning environment that supports outdoor university activities.
Green spaces also occupy a prominent position within the college’s environmental vision, covering 10,600 square meters, representing 53.5% of the total area. This highlights the college’s commitment to promoting the concept of a “green campus” by increasing vegetation cover, improving air quality, and reducing heat emissions within the campus.
Believing in the importance of preserving biodiversity and environmental resources, the College of Science has established a natural history museum that houses a variety of Iraqi species, including rare and endangered species. The museum contributes to raising environmental awareness among students and supporting scientific research in the fields of environment and biodiversity, serving as a scientific and educational center that promotes sustainable development goals.
As part of university security and safety, the college has equipped an early warning system, hand fire extinguishers, and a central firefighting system covering all buildings and laboratories. It also features emergency stairs and signage to ensure the safety of students and staff in emergency situations. The college also has 10 health complexes dedicated to students, faculty, and staff, ensuring a clean and healthy environment for all.
The internal road and sidewalk network has been designed to be clean and shaded by vegetation, creating a relaxing aesthetic and encouraging walking within the campus. The total open area within the complex is approximately 11,000 square meters, while the college employs approximately 3,700 individuals. This results in a total area-to-staff ratio of 2.97 square meters per person, providing a comfortable and organized work environment.
Thus, the College of Science at Al-Qadisiyah University affirms its commitment to achieving sustainable development goals through effective infrastructure management, enhancing green spaces, protecting biodiversity, and implementing safety and well-being standards in a model university environment.
