Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Rahi Kallaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, President of Al-Qadisiyah University, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Munir Abdul Amir Abdul Fatlawi, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Physiology Department at the college held a scientific course on laboratory safety. The course was presented by Professor Dr. Nouris Kazim Mahdi, Assistant Professor Dr. Thama Kazim Madloul, and Assistant Professor Dr. Ishtar Adnan
The course aimed to provide general information about general laboratory safety, identify the most important safety and security guidelines, and how to handle accidents in the laboratory.
The most important conclusions include: Procedures followed to prevent laboratory accidents include teaching or training in safety, adopting policies that ensure laboratory safety, inspecting the integrity of experimental designs, and using personal protective equipment, including wearing a lab coat when conducting scientific experiments. Avoiding the use of touch, smell, or taste to identify chemicals, and the rules for using hand extinguishers, among other things.
The most important recommendations are to follow general laboratory safety guidelines, and to post posters containing awareness information about the procedures followed to avoid the dangers of handling electrical equipment and chemicals, as well as warnings regarding handling pathogens in terms of isolation and diagnosis.
