The Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the College of Medicine at Al-Qadisiyah University held a scientific workshop in cooperation with the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. The workshop addressed one of the Higher Education Strategy programs, which included the external examiner system for master’s and doctoral students in clinical biochemistry.

The workshop also included a scientific section titled “Reviewing Clinical Studies on the Effects of Fig and Olive Consumption on Human Health: An Integrative Study of Traditional and Scientific Evidence,” which aimed to link traditional medical heritage with modern research evidence, thus enhancing the integration of scientific knowledge in the medical field.

The workshop was held in collaboration with Dr. Ahmed Hussein Al-Saffar, a lecturer at the University of Manchester, United Kingdom. He is a professor at prestigious international universities outside Iraq and an external examiner for postgraduate programs. The workshop was also attended by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Aqeel Rahim Hassan Al-Barqawi.

The workshop aimed to enhance educational quality and align its outcomes with the best international standards, contributing to the advancement of postgraduate studies and the development of the academic environment at the college.

The most important recommendations are to activate sustainable academic cooperation with reputable international universities, especially the University of Manchester, as well as adopting the external examiner system as a quality control mechanism for postgraduate studies. They also work to develop curricula in line with international academic standards and encourage the exchange of scientific and research expertise between professors inside and outside Iraq
