The Educational and Psychological Guidance Unit at the College of Law at Al-Qadisiyah University held a scientific symposium entitled “Activating the Legal Text to Combat the Scourge of Smoking.” Assistant Professor Dr. Walid Hassan Hamid and Assistant Professor Dr. Laila Hamza Radhi
The seminar aimed to raise awareness of the harmful effects of smoking on individual health, as individuals are essential members of society. It also aimed to clarify the Iraqi legislator’s position on combating smoking, highlighting the shortcomings that have limited efforts to combat smoking.
The seminar concluded that Iraqi legislators have regulated the mechanism for tobacco importation into Iraq and set regulations that punish anyone who violates them. They also restricted the right of individuals to smoke by prohibiting smoking in state institutions and imposing financial penalties as a penalty for violating these provisions.
The seminar recommended the need to activate the legal text through the concerted efforts of all parties, whether government or individuals. It also recommended activating the role of the media in presenting educational programs and advertisements that highlight the dangers of smoking to individual health, highlighting the diseases caused by smoking and the serious medical conditions caused by smoking. It also recommended presenting cases of individuals who have quit smoking to encourage others to follow suit.
