Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Rahi Kalf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, President of Al-Qadisiyah University, and under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Munir Abdul Amir Abdul Fatlawi, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Research and Common Diseases Unit at the College completed a scientific symposium on the Brucellosis Control Program, in which Prof. Dr. Haider Naji Ayez, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hassan Hajem Nasser, Prof. Zeina Fouad Saleh, and Asst. Dr. Khatam Qaid Manea
The symposium aimed to highlight the importance and danger of brucellosis (Malta fever), as it is a disease that causes significant economic losses in sheep herds and leads to miscarriages during the late stages of pregnancy. It is also considered an important transmissible disease between animals and humans, as it is transmitted through direct contact with infected animals (such as sheep, goats, cows, and camels), or through the consumption of their products, such as unpasteurized milk or undercooked meat.
The most important recommendations include developing a local plan to control brucellosis in Diwaniyah Governorate, strengthening the administrative aspect by establishing accurate records and numbering animals, and implementing comprehensive awareness campaigns for breeders on ways to prevent the disease.
