The Department of Materials Engineering at the College of Engineering at Al-Qadisiyah University organized a cultural symposium entitled “Ideological Extremism and Terrorism: Two Sides of the Same Coin” in the Continuing Education Unit Hall. The symposium was attended by Asst. Dr. Qasim Mazhar Turki. The symposium aimed to shed light on intellectual extremism and terrorism, analyze their multiple negative dimensions on individuals and society, and seek to initiate an in-depth dialogue about the causes of the spread of these phenomena, while proposing scientific and practical solutions to mitigate their destructive effects on society. The symposium recommended that education be one of the most important tools for reaching young people, working to change their perceptions and protect them against extremism. It should be funded by governments for measures and procedures to combat terrorism and violent extremism. Governments should also work to identify ways in which education can be used to protect students against extremist ideology and empower them to confront extremist ideas and beliefs.
