The College of Science at Al-Qadisiyah University holds a scientific workshop on stereochemistry and its key role in preparing organic compounds.

Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Prof. Dr. Kadhim Jabr Al-Jubouri, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Dr. Salwan Ali Obaid, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Science held a scientific workshop entitled “Stereochemistry and its Main Role in the Preparation of Organic Compounds.” Professor Dr. Nabil Abdul-Abdul-Ridha and Assistant Professor Dr. Taiba Ibrahim Muhammad presented at the workshop. The workshop emphasized the importance of stereochemistry in our daily lives, especially in many organic reactions. Its importance also lies in the pharmaceutical industry, where different isomers can have different biological effects. The simplest example of this is the thalidomide drug disaster, where one of its isomers (the nexus) caused a catastrophic birth defect, while the other isomer was used as an anti-vomiting medication.
