The Department of Financial and Banking Sciences at the College of Administration and Economics at Al-Qadisiyah University held a scientific workshop entitled “The Role of Internal Audit in Reducing Banking Risks” in Al-Maqrizi Hall, presented by lecturer Dr. Alaa Awad Kazim Al-Badri. The workshop aimed to shed light on the nature of operations and activities in banks and the elements for improving the work of internal auditors. It highlighted that internal audit is one of the most important departments and units within a bank, given the work it provides that can limit or eliminate potential risks facing banks. However, this is conditional upon the internal auditor possessing scientific and practical qualifications, objectivity, impartiality, and complete independence in expressing their opinions. They must also be constantly informed of all auditing standards, rules, and procedures, including international standards and Basel standards, and must participate in training courses to develop their skills. The workshop concluded that the more independence there is in the work of internal auditors in banks, the more banking risks are reduced and mitigated.
