Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Kadhim Jabr Al-Jubouri, and in the presence of the Assistant President for Academic Affairs, Professor Dr. Sattar Al-Fatlawi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Archaeology, Assistant Professor Dr. Rajwan Faisal Al-Mayali, a scientific symposium entitled “Results of Archaeological Excavations in Al-Hirah from 2015 to 2024” was held at the College of Archaeology, in cooperation with the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage. Dr. Martina Mullerweiner from the Museum of Islamic Art and Archaeology, Berlin, and Dr. Martin Gusson from the Department of Architecture and Arts at the Technical University of Berlin presented the symposium, which was moderated by Professor Dr. Jaafar Hamza Al-Juthari. The symposium discussed the stages of the archaeological survey and excavation conducted by the German mission at several archaeological sites in the city of Al-Hirah. A detailed survey of the area was conducted using modern techniques, including macrometric surveying. The foundations and dimensions of the ancient buildings buried beneath the surface were also revealed. This was followed by excavation and exploration of some of these buildings, which led to the discovery of several churches, public buildings, residences, and pottery-making sites. It was also noted that there was a joint Christian and Muslim settlement, indicating peaceful coexistence and freedom of worship in the early Islamic period in Al-Hirah.
