The Department of Materials Engineering at the College of Engineering at Al-Qadisiyah University organized a scientific course titled “Manufacturing Polymeric Membranes for Water Treatment” in the hall of the Continuing Education Unit, presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Asraa Faisal Ghazi and PhD Engineer Maha Jassim Mohammed.
The course aimed to introduce the membrane technology used in water treatment and the manufacturing methods specific to each type of membrane and to work with them.
The theoretical part of the course included a general introduction to the science of membranes, especially polymeric ones, and methods for improving hydrophobic membranes to hydrophilic membranes through physical and chemical methods using polymer blends or by grafting the polymer with hydrophilic polymers.
The practical part of the course included how to dissolve the polymer completely using the appropriate solvent and how to cast samples of polymeric membranes using the phase separation method.
