Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Kazem Jabir Al-Jubouri, and in the presence of the Assistant Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Star Al-Fatlawi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Archaeology, Assistant Professor Dr. Rajwan Faisal Al-Miyali, a workshop on the use of modern technologies in archaeological surveying was held at the College of Archaeology. The workshop featured lectures by Professor Dr. Jaafar Hamza Al-Joudhary and Dr. Emily Hammer from the University of Pennsylvania, USA.

The workshop detailed the latest methods and techniques used in archaeological surveying, which are fundamental in studying archaeological sites and analyzing their nature without the need for direct excavation. It also included a detailed demonstration of high-resolution old and new satellite images, which provide an accurate view of the site and analyze the changes that have occurred over time.

These efforts resulted in several important findings, most notably the re-evaluation of the area of the archaeological site of Ur. The results of the survey showed that the extent of the city exceeds what was previously known, as adjacent archaeological sites were identified, indicating the city’s expansion beyond its traditional limits. Additionally, the natural formation of the site was confirmed, as data revealed that the city consists of two main mounds separated by an ancient channel of the Euphrates River, indicating the role of the natural environment in shaping the city’s layout.
