Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyyah University, Professor Dr. Kazim Jabir Al-Jubouri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Silwan Ali Ubaid Al-Hamzawi, the Psychological and Social Guidance Unit at the College of Science held a scientific seminar titled (Religious Extremism and Its Effects). The seminar featured presentations by Assistant Lecturer Taif Muthar Muslim, Assistant Lecturer Zainah Abdul-Kadhim Awda, and Mr. Ahmad Dawazah.
The seminar aimed to combat religious extremism and promote concepts of tolerance and moderation. It included several topics, such as defining the concept of religious extremism, explaining the psychological, social, and cultural causes, in addition to the reasons for the spread of this phenomenon, such as technological advancement.
The main recommendations emphasized that religious principles are noble principles that convey peace and reassurance, calling for justice, equality, and compassion towards the weak. Therefore, these principles cannot be exploited to promote intolerance, violence, and extremism. There is a need to focus on educational programs and curricula in higher education to raise awareness about the dangers of terrorist thought, extremism, and religious intolerance.
