Sponsored by Professor Dr. Kazem Jaber Al-Jubouri, the president of Al-Qadisiyah University, and supervised by Professor Dr. Munir Abdul Amir Abdul Fattah, the dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Physiology and Pharmacology Department conducted a training course on the importance and harms of fungicides. Presenters included Prof. Dr. Nawar Kazem Mahdi, Assoc. Prof. Salah Mahdi Karim, Assoc. Prof. Mianad Jabar Sahib, and Assoc. Prof. Ishtar Adnan.

The course aimed to provide an overview of the types of widely used fungicides in Iraq, recognize their toxic effects, and assess the impact of pesticides on the health of animals and humans.

The key findings indicate that assessing the risks of pesticide impacts is not an easy task due to variations in exposure durations and levels, the types of pesticides used (in terms of toxicity and persistence), and the environmental characteristics of the areas where pesticides are typically applied. Consequently, there is a need for new tools or techniques that are more reliable than those currently available to predict the potential risks of pesticides, thus contributing to mitigating harmful effects on human and animal health as well as the environment.
