Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Kazem Jabir Al-Jubouri, President of Al-Qadisiyah University, and with the supervision of Professor Dr. Munir Abdul Amir Abdul Fatlawi, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Department of Internal and Preventive Medicine at the college organized an awareness and guidance scientific seminar on foot-and-mouth disease which has spread among herds of Iraqi cows and buffalo. The seminar featured presentations by Professor Dr. Khalifa Ali Mansour, Professor Dr. Yahya Ismail Khudhair, and Assistant Professor Dr. Muhammad Hamza Abdul Kazem.
The seminar aimed to highlight the danger of foot-and-mouth disease and its impact on livestock, as well as to present the latest research on prevention and treatment, and to enhance communication between researchers, breeders, and veterinary health experts.
The recommendations included limiting the movement of animals between provinces and districts, especially in areas with high infection rates, and conducting an emergency vaccination campaign by the veterinary authority of the Ministry, which should be comprehensive, particularly around areas experiencing disease outbreaks. Additionally, animals should be vaccinated with a vaccine containing the serotypes O, SAT1, SAT2 after conducting laboratory tests that confirm the infection of animals with the above isolates.
