Under the sponsorship of Professor Dr. Kazem Jabr Al-Jubouri, President of Al-Qadisiyah University, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Munir Abdul Amir Abdul Fattah Alawi, Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Department of Diseases and Poultry Diseases organized a discussion session titled “Avian Influenza Virus,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Israa Najm Abdullah Al-Abbadi.

The session aimed to explain the process of causing avian influenza, which goes through several steps that describe how the virus infects host cells, replicates, and causes disease in birds.

The main recommendations highlight that understanding the causes of avian influenza is crucial for developing effective prevention and control strategies, including vaccines and biosecurity measures to protect the health of birds and humans, as some strains of avian influenza, particularly H5N1 and H7N9, have the ability to infect humans, leading to severe respiratory illnesses. The mechanisms of transmission to humans are similar and involve close contact with infected birds or contaminated environments.
