This participation comes within the framework of enhancing the position of Iraqi universities in international rankings. The University of Baghdad organized a specialized workshop on the Shanghai Ranking of universities and academic disciplines, in cooperation with the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, with wide participation from representatives of quality assurance departments and global rankings in Iraqi universities.
The workshop addressed key topics, most notably the criteria used by the Shanghai Ranking to evaluate universities, which include scientific research, publication in reputable journals, the number of citations of research, and the number of global awards received by faculty members and graduates.
Strategies that universities can adopt to enhance their ranking position were also explained, with a focus on the importance of academic disciplines by subjects and their role in meeting ranking criteria, as well as discussing the possibility of Iraqi universities participating in this important ranking.
