As part of a scientific research team between the College of Computer Science and Information Technology at Al-Qadisiya University and international collaboration with researchers from the University of Arkansas, a joint scientific paper was published on the presentation of an innovative technology to identify effective and influential features in the early diagnosis of epilepsy seizures in the journal of Intelligent Health Systems, which is published by Elsevier and classified within the first quartile of Scopus-indexed journals.
The team consisted of researchers Professor Dr. Diaa Al-Shammari and researcher Mustafa Naaman Kazem from Al-Qadisiya University, along with researcher Mohammed Sadiq and Professor Mariovana Milanova from the University of Arkansas in the United States.
The research included the development and presentation of a new and innovative technology to determine the influential and effective features in the diagnosis of seizures in epilepsy patients by supplying smart diagnostic systems with the influential features and disregarding the non-influential features in the brain wave signals of the patients, providing them with an early warning to avoid accidents.
The new system is part of a project for driving by epilepsy patients, enabling them to avoid accidents during a seizure by integrating the early diagnosis of epilepsy system with car systems and issuing commands for automatic driving or emergency stopping.
The team relied on the development of the Helnicker athletic model and its practical application in analyzing and diagnosing brain waves.
