The Legal Unit at the College of Law at Al-Qadisiyah University, in cooperation with the Continuing Education Unit, held a scientific symposium entitled (The Role of the Media in Reducing Financial Corruption). The symposium was attended by Dr. Ali Abdul-Sada Jaiz, Dr. Laila Hamza Radhi, and Dr. Legal Ali Jabbar Talib
The seminar aimed to shed light on the media and its importance in combating corruption through the programs, meetings and dialogues it provides related to the mechanism for reducing the phenomenon of corruption, as well as highlighting the actions that must be combated and educating the citizen about the importance of reporting them if they are exposed to them by stating the means that the citizen can resort to, such as reporting through the Integrity Commission numbers or filing a criminal lawsuit directly, as financial corruption crimes are reported either before the Integrity Commission or before the criminal courts.
The seminar concluded that the media has two roles in combating financial corruption: the first is awareness-raising for the citizen and the employee alike, while the second is a deterrent role related to the employee in particular, as it represents, on the one hand, a supplementary punishment if the ruling in administrative corruption crimes is published through the media, and the second is general deterrence that warns the employee against engaging in behavior similar to the behavior of an employee convicted of a crime of financial corruption that he will be exposed to the same fate as the convicted employee.
The seminar also recommended giving the media Its full role as a fourth authority complements the other three authorities in that it is a supervisory body over the executive authority and derives its strength from its audience that follows it.
