Under the sponsorship of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Kazem Jaber Al-Jubouri, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Professor Dr. Ali Hassan Ali Murad, the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Dentistry held a workshop titled “Types of Cytoskeleton: Structure and Function,” presented by Assistant Professors Dr. Warkaa Mohammed, Dr. Ashwaq Shakir, and Dr. Widad Abdul Jawad.
The workshop aimed to define the cytoskeleton, clarify its components, and explain its types and main functions in the cell.
The workshop recommended the necessity of keeping up with the latest studies that show the effect of certain drugs in cancer treatment by stopping the polymerization process of microtubules, which can control cancer, such as the drugs: Colcemid and colchicine, which bind to the protein (tubulin) and halt the polymerization of microtubules, thereby preventing cell division. On the other hand, the drugs Vincristine and vinblastine are used in chemotherapy for cancer because they selectively stop rapidly dividing cells.
