The Educational and Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Law, Al-Qadisiyah University, held a scientific seminar entitled “The Role of Law in Promoting Mental Health,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Laila Hamza Radi, in collaboration with student Zainab Farhan, conducted a seminar aimed at informing students that mental health laws aim to ensure that individuals with mental disorders are treated with respect and without discrimination, prevent any abuse or unlawful detention, and guarantee appropriate therapeutic care. The seminar concluded that the legal regulation of mental health fundamentally aims to achieve dual protection: protecting the patient as a human being with full rights, and, in particular, protecting society from the risks resulting from the absence of treatment or mishandling of mental disorders. This makes such regulation an integral part of the legal framework for public health and social justice. Among the most important recommendations is the updating of national mental health legislation. It is essential to review current laws to ensure their compliance with international standards, especially the United Nations Principles for the Protection of Persons with Mental Disorders and the Patients’ Rights Charter, and to strengthen guarantees for the protection of patients’ rights by establishing stricter mechanisms to prevent arbitrary detention.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
