Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalaf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Salwan Ali Obaid, the Psychological Counseling and Social Guidance Unit at the College of Science held a workshop entitled “Smoking: The Silent Danger That Kills Slowly.” The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Zainab Hussein Abdul Khader.<\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the devastating health effects of smoking, expose the marketing tactics of the tobacco industry, and encourage smokers to quit by providing them with the necessary information and support. The workshop covered several topics, including the effects of smoking on the heart, lungs, and the body in general; the risk of developing diseases such as cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); and the dangers of secondhand smoke to those around smokers.<\/p>\n

The most important recommendations included developing a quit plan with the assistance of medical and psychological support, focusing on healthy alternatives and physical activities, calling for increased awareness campaigns about the dangers of smoking in schools, colleges, and various institutions, and organizing more workshops.
