The Department of Roads and Transportation Engineering at the College of Engineering, Al-Qadisiyah University, held a scientific workshop entitled “Burj Khalifa: A Structural and Engineering Perspective” in the Continuing Education Unit Hall at the college. The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Rand Mohammed Jassim.<\/p>\n

The workshop addressed the engineering challenges faced by the project team, most notably soil weakness: the soil was unsuitable for supporting a tower exceeding 800 meters in height. Other challenges included karst formations: the presence of dissolved pockets or cavities in the gypsum rock beneath the soil surface due to groundwater. Finally, the workshop addressed the risk of erosion: the saturation of the soil with saline water, which threatens the concrete and reinforcing steel with corrosion.
