Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Rahi Kalf Mahdi Al-Yasiri, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Salwan Al-Hamzawi, the Department of Medical Physics at the College of Science held the first student medical workshop entitled “The Importance of Linear Accelerators in Medicine.” The workshop was moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Haider Saad Abdul-Baqi. The workshop was presented by fourth-year students Muhammad Hadi Rahim and Muhammad Hassan Hadi.<\/p>\n

The workshop included a detailed explanation of the physical aspects of the linear accelerator (LINAC), including the mechanism of electron acceleration and the formation of radiation photons. It also included an introduction to its basic components, such as the IGRT system and MLC accessories. It also explained its uses in radiation therapy for superficial tumors using electrons, and for deep tumors using braking radiation photons.<\/p>\n

The medical aspect of the workshop also included an introduction to the radiological anatomy of the tumor, an explanation of patient preparation before the treatment session, and the mechanism for determining the appropriate radiation dose. It also included a review of a real treatment plan and the use of a therapeutic cyst model.
