As part of the program to develop graduate students’ research skills, the College of Law at Al-Qadisiyah University organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled “Legal Research in International Agreements,” presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Osama Sabry Muhammad and moderated by lecturer Dr. Ali Hamza Jabr.<\/p>\n

The workshop aimed to enhance the scientific research skills of graduate students in the field of international law, define a sound methodological framework for writing research papers that address international agreements and treaties as a source of legal norms, and highlight the challenges and problems facing legal researchers when analyzing, interpreting, and applying the texts of international agreements.<\/p>\n

The workshop concluded that researchers face difficulty in determining the final and binding text of an agreement, especially given the presence of reservations and interpretative declarations issued by state parties. The importance of interpretation stems from the systematic interpretation of the agreement (in accordance with the rules of the 1969 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties), which is essential for sound legal research. Researchers must also move beyond literal interpretation to objective and purposive interpretation.<\/p>\n

The workshop recommended the inclusion of advanced methodologies for researching international agreements in graduate student curricula, the provision of subscriptions and international databases (such as the United Nations treaty databases) to access full texts and reservations, and the encouragement of students to analyze court rulings. International and regional organizations that have interpreted or applied international agreements, as they provide practical insights into the international legal basis, and the frequent organization of specialized workshops focusing on the practical application of methodologies in analyzing specific international agreements.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
