Under the patronage of the President of Al-Qadisiyah University, Professor Dr. Kadhim Jabr Al-Jubouri, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Fine Arts, Professor Dr. Kadhim Nowair Al-Zubaidi, the College of Fine Arts held a workshop entitled “Place: The Basis of the Directorial Hypothesis.” Assistant Professor Dr. Muhannad Al-Amidi lectured. The workshop aimed to clarify place as a physical space that embraces theatrical action. Furthermore, place is itself a dramatic act that weaves its threads with the rest of the performance’s formats. Indeed, it is the foundation. There is no theatrical performance without the premise of place. We can call it the concrete of the performance, for upon it stands the performance in all its formats. The workshop emphasized the importance of working on the first directorial spaces through which the director moves, starting with his directorial vision. Through this space, he plans how to create it in order to present the theatrical performance. He then begins to establish it visually by employing vocabulary and signs that move it visually, intellectually, and aesthetically.
